‘Weet je nog?’ (2024)

Theme: memories, early childhood

A project, made together with:
Indy van Teeffelen
At what age does a child begin to remember moments?  It's fascinating how entire chunks of memories are missing from the beginning of life. Most people cannot recall experiences before the age of three or four.

The years that hold few or no recollections have often been captured through photographs. But how do these images shape our understanding of those times? Do they create false memories, or do they simply fill the gaps where memory fails?

This project questions the relationship between documented moments and actual lived experience, and how visual records can both preserve and distort our sense of the past.
